Did you know that more than 5 BILLION videos are watched daily?
Is your video getting as many eyeballs as it should?
Do you have the right tools help catapult your views from OK to Outstanding?
Here are some of my favorites.
Tips to Rock your next video
Tip #1 – Lighting & Sound
Ensuring your lighting and sound quality are at their best is easy with some simple tools. You’ll want to invest in
Selfie light/diva light. This round light sheds some light on your face and the area around your head. You’ll find them on-line starting at $20 and moving up in price and quality. Tip: check out those lights that clip onto the top of your phone or laptop. The flexibility this offers you will improve your video quality no matter your location.
Microphones come in all styles and price points. Depending on your needs you may find you need a couple of mics for different projects.
Are you planning to shoot video using your phone? If so, having an external mic is crucial. I use this i-Rig lav mic. Purchased on-line it plugs into the jack on my phone and has a lapel clip. Another model comes with 2 microphones. This is perfect for interviews and client testimonials.
Are you planning to shoot video from your desktop? If so, a professional style mic is essential to audio quality and will propel your video into a more professional space.
If you’re creating video where you’re explaining or showcasing information you can consider a headset style microphone. I use this one for desktop recording. (Available on Amazon for about $50.00.)
If you’re creating video interviews from your desktop, I use a Blue Snowball. (Available on Amazon for less than $60.00.) Plug and play directly to your Mac or PC-no drivers to install
If you’re doing video webinars or live stream from your desktop where you’ll be featured on the video, you’ll want to consider a wireless lapel mic. I use the Samson lav. (Available on Amazon for about $99.00.) It’s USB plug works on my laptop and it’s wireless.
Tip #2 – Add Captions
Since most videos are watched without sound it’s important to add captions so your message will be loud and clear even without sound.
When you upload your videos to Facebook and create an ad using that video, you can add captions automatically. In the Ad level you have an option to automatically generate captions. It looks like this. (figure 5)
Pro Tip: Make sure you read and proof your automatically generated captions as they’re not always quite accurate. The captions can be edited when you’re creating your ad or afterwards.
You Tube Captions
Using You Tube you can also add captions. To do this, you must be the owner of the video and have the video uploaded to YouTube. Go to the Video Manager tab in your YouTube account. Find the video to caption, and select the Edit button. Then, select the Add subtitles or CC button, and choose your specified language (e.g. English). It looks like this:
Tip #3 – Video Ads
Next create a social ad featuring your video and watch your reach skyrocket. By selecting the Video Views option you’ll extend your reach with your own custom audiences. ProTargeting tips here.
You can even choose the Split Testing Option to test creative, placement, audience, and delivery optimization.
Video Roadmap and Favorite Tools
Here’s some tools that I use to make video production easier.
- After I shoot my video, I edit it using Screen-Cast-o-Matic. It’s super easy to clip out mistakes and add overlays. You can also check out another easy editing tool called VSDC.
- Then I put my video into Movie Maker to add my contact info at the end. This takes about 2 minutes.
- After editing, I post it to Facebook, Twitter, You-Tube, LinkedIn and Google+. This way I get so much more reach that it makes it worth my time
- The last step is to advertise it socially. Putting a few dollars into a well-targeted social ad can take your viewership from OK to Outstanding!
Video Without Being On-Screen
If you hate the thought of being on screen, here are a couple of options for you!
With these tools at hand, you’re ready for your next video production success. Which will you use first?
