Marketing has come a long way from billboards and TV commercials. More and more brands are realizing the power that social media has to connect to their clients. This is especially true for the travel and tourism industry! One way to get people focusing on you is to incorporate into your marketing plan short, impactful videos like those created with Instagram Video.
Step 1 – Sign Up
Instagram is an app that can be easily accessed using your Android or iOS smartphone. Instagram Video is a new feature of the overall Instagram service – a platform that became famous for giving users the ability to take their own photos and add a wow factor using built-in filters and editing tools. If you already have an Instagram account, you are free to start creating your own videos using the exact same app!
If not, head to the App store on your phone and search for “Instagram.” This app is free to download.
Download it to your device and open the app to register your account. Now you can choose your username and password. Choose something that is easy to remember and reflects your company properly.
Tip: don’t worry – you can always change your username later if you need to!
Fill in any remaining information (email address, etc.) Make sure to include your website address in the description section.
Step 2 – Create Content
Instagram Video gives you the freedom to create and share video clips that are up to 15 seconds long!
To create a video in the app, click the camera icon located at the bottom of the screen (see icon that is circled).
Once the screen displays images as visible through your camera, click the Film Camera icon (see icon that is circled).
Once here, you can create short video by pressing the red “Record” button at the bottom of the screen.
Instagram Video gives you some great built-in features to make your videos as cool and memorable as possible.
Step 3 – Make the most of your Instagram Videos
As a travel and tourism pro, you’ve got many features and benefits that your clients just HAVE to know about, so how can you highlight them in just 15 seconds or less?

Destinations: Got an attraction or event that clients travel from all over the world to see? There’s nothing quite like seeing it in person, but a lot of impact can be made by creating a “teaser trailer” to get guests excited before they arrive! Tour Operators: Give your clients a quick look at the sights they’ll be seeing in person if they join you! WestJet showed off some awesome vintage planes that stopped by one of their hangars: Click here to watch. What are some sights around your office that your clients would like to see?
Travel Agents: Create and post a video of your latest fam trip: maybe a cooking demo on a tour or cruise you’ve recently been on or a mini tour of your cruise cabin. For wedding specialists; you could capture a video of the latest wedding you’ve planned and executed, such as a video of the flowers or food.
