Did you know you can now add hashtags # into your Facebook posts? That’s right! What was normally used only on Twitter can now be used to find others talking about a specific topic on Facebook. Hashtags let you see a feed of posts about a specific topic.
Imagine being able to join conversations about your top selling destination?
Imagine searching what others are saying via clickable # (hashtags)
Imagine being able to more accurately target your Facebook ads?
Here’s what it may look like in your next post:
Travel pros: Use a # to highlight the destination you’re talking about in your Facebook post. Then search that # and see who else is talking about it and join the conversation. Imagine using it to showcase your niche or specialty; #Honeymoon comes to mind.
Here are some posts as examples:
Tour Operators and Cruise Lines: Include a # in your post about a new museum or attraction you’ll visit on an upcoming tour.
Hotels and restaurants: Hashtag your city or locale within a city to reach people looking to plan their upcoming visit. How about reaching out to your audience to thank them and build community.
Best Practices – Hashtags
#1 – Research
Research which # are being used and the conversations within those #. Ensure that your audience is there and part of the engagement. Learn and listen. To do this research, simply type into the Facebook Search bar the # you’d like to search out. Here’s an example. Then select the choice with the # icon.
Here’s what the feed for #cruise looks like:
#2 Keep it Simple
Like Twitter, keep your use of hashtags to 1-3 per post. Remember, some people may still be turned off by # and not fully understand their use. Less is more!
#3 Integrate with Twitter
When you post to Twitter and Facebook you can now more easily repurpose your tweets for Facebook.
#4 Join conversations and meet new people
The fun of using # is that you’ll have the opportunity to meet and chat with people with similar interests. Maximize your conversations by providing value and not always selling. Remember, social media is SOCIAL!
Also, keep in mind you may be reaching potential new clients and your enthusiasm and personality will be what people remember when making their travel plans.
Roll Out of # on Facebook
While this amazing marketing opportunity is available to some Facebook users since June, it is being rolled out slowly to all users.
Have you used hashtags in your #Facebook posts yet?
